Mimi di Niscemi was born in Sicily and studied at the Philadelphia Museum School of Industry and worked part time for the makers of Schiaparelli jewelry, and eventually won a scholarship to the School of Applied Arts in Paris.
Later she worked with designer Arnold Scassi in his costume jewelry division, then went on to work with Robert De Mario. She went on to design "runway" jewelry and in 1960 opened her own firm. She married the grand nephew of Czar Nicholas II, Prince Alexander Romanoff.
Large "door-knocker" lion pendant with incredible detail on the face. We love the sad, droopy eyes and slightly turned down expression of this lion king.  Brings back memories of the Wizard of Oz!!!
Excellent condition, measures 2 inches across, 2 and a half inches long.  Signed on the back: 1974, Mimi di N. Snake chain measures 18 inches.
